The transformed Mazda MX5 Coupe is a hair-dresser’s car?

Posted in car, car review, mazda by Priyanka Dalvi on March 30, 2009

Mazda MX5

Mazda MX5

The MX-5 feels as lively as a single-seater racer vehicle. In the Roadster Coupe, the Mazda MX5 has undergone its most radical transformation since its launch. The steering is superbly direct and quick to respond. It’s communicative, with bags of feedback through the steering wheel, providing the driver with loads of information on what the front wheels are doing. All this, and the ride is pretty good too, leaving occupants to climb out ache free. The 17 inch big wheels tend to skip over bumps, so the driver has to be careful on faster or sharper bends.

The engine options available with the MX-5 are 1.8 and 2 litre. The 1.8-litre feels a bit limp simply because the chassis can take so much more. The bigger 158bhp 2-litre is more the tag, with 0-62mph in 7.9 and a 131mph top speed. The Mazda MX5 is a car chosen by many motorists for its excellent driving experience rather than utter speed.

The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe offers one of the most excellent driving experiences available at any cost. Plus, the MX5 driver need not compromise on reliability and comfort. Its not the hair-dressers’ car, as most of its critic goes. Fun like this hard to find.

Posted in auto, car, car checking, car maintenance, car safety, auto repair, auto maintenance by Qamar Rehman on October 11, 2007

Many general checks can be carried out by the driver/owner but there may be safety and driving implications. For guidance, a skilled technician should be referred to for help in accordance to the manufacturer’s service schedule and the Owner’s manual or whenever you are unsure about what to do.

Maintenance you may need help with:

  • Engine Oil
  • Engine coolant level
  • Radiator
  • Brakes
  • Air filter
  • Battery – if this becomes flat you will need jump leads. To start your car off somebody else’s by attaching the positive terminals of each car together and the negative terminals of each car together then starting the engine.
  • Exhaust
  • Belts
  • Shock absorbers
  • Steering fluid -Transmission, brakes, clutch and power

Maintenance to consider in winter:

  • Engine anti-freeze
  • Special battery care
  • Ignition and starting

Maintenance to consider in summer:

  • Cooling system
  • Suspension

Simple maintenance you can do:

Windscreen washers and wiper blades – As it is now a legal requirement to have washers filled up, fill the reservoir up to the brim with windscreen washer fluid when it is only ¼ full. Look out for wear, cracks and damage. Wiper blades should usually be replaced once a year and earlier if smearing occurs.
Lights: Check all lights are operating correctly. It is advisable to use the help of a friend to inspect the exterior of the vehicle whilst you are operating the controls. See lights diagram
