The Honda S2000 is all about that incredible engine

Posted in Automotive, car, car buying, Car Finder, car news, car pictures, car review, Car Reviews, honda by Qamar Rehman on March 18, 2009

For many, the Honda S2000 is all about that incredible engine. It revs – and roars – like a motorbike and is totally unlike any other roadster available today.

The S2000 sports a powerful, 2.2-liter, high revving engine while the high X-bone monocoque frame provides excellent rigidity and load distribution.

Nothing exemplifies Honda racing skill and ingenuity like the S2000 CR “Club Racer.” A firmer suspension, quicker steering ratio and fully functional front and rear spoilers have been specially designed to connect driver, vehicle and road.

The Honda S2000 has a strange blend of head-turning ability, while still having reasonably conservative looks. Its long, low bonnet is the starting point for the car’s sleek looks, and there’s some real design flair with its boiled sweet-coloured rear light cluster held in a smoked glass unit. The S2000 comes equipped with a set of 17-inch alloys and a pair of oversized tailpipes poking out from under the rear bumper. Bold S2000 badging along the front wings emphasises the car’s branding further.

The Honda S2000 scored four out of five stars in the EuroNCAP crash tests, which is competitive for a small roadster which debuted in 1999. It features driver and passenger airbags as standard, although side airbags aren’t available.

Honda Accord is known for its look and plenty of features

Posted in Automotive, car, car buying, car news, car review, Car Reviews, honda by Qamar Rehman on March 18, 2009

Honda Accord is a great looking car. The V-shaped grille and 17 inch alloys add an air of class, and the overall design a fine balance of not being too showy or understated. The rear – especially the light clusters – lifts the Accord above the sober styling of its predecessors, and the fancy 17 inch multispoke alloys fitted to our top-of-the-range test car hoist the looks yet higher.

Honda Accord combines high technology and high quality with everyday economy of operation and keen attention to detail. The popular LX and EX sedans are terrific cars with comfort and convenience features that make them great daily drivers. Order the leather interior, and the EX becomes an affordable luxury sedan. The four-cylinder i-VTEC engine is powerful and responsive, delivering strong acceleration performance for passing. The V6 adds another level of sporting appeal.

The leather interior on our EX test car suits the Accord particularly well, and the fittings and dash feel solid, although the plastics used look a little shiny and low-rent. There’s plenty of storage space, and the dashboard instruments are well presented, although the buttons on the central unit could be a little more intuitive to use. The steering wheel adjusts, meaning finding a good driving position is easy.

Honda cars are about as reliable as you can get. The Accord feels well built, and the chances are, apart from servicing and replacing consumables such as brakes and tyres, you’ll never need to see the inside of a garage.

Not all 4x4s are the same,” is the claim from Honda.

Posted in car, car buying, Car Finder, car news, car review, Car Reviews, honda by Qamar Rehman on January 27, 2009

Honda might say the CR-V’s X-factor is being the acceptable face of 4x4s – fairly economical mileage, lower-than-expected tax and a car-like feel to the handling. We’d say it is the fact the Honda CRV gives the impression of being a car which costs several thousand pounds more than it actually does, with great looks, quality build and materials and the fact it’s only likely to break down if you leave the light on.

“Not all 4x4s are the same,” is the claim from Honda.

Honda sought to combine the best elements of SUVs, MPVs and saloons when putting the interior together, though it’s the SUV element which dominates due to chunky styling.

As expected the Honda CR-V scores well here. With all seats in place there is 556 litres space to stow your shopping, but this can be increased to 955 with only the two front seats occupied.

Honda claims that rather than benchmarking the CR-V against its natural rivals: Toyota RAV4 and Nissan’s X-Trail, they sought to make their SUV as car-like as possible by comparison with saloons like the Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo.

Honda come a very respectable third in the UK’s list of most reliable manufacturers and the CR-V is one of its most reliable models.

Civic Type-R is bought for its looks, its reliability and its cracking engine.

Posted in car, car buying, car buying guide, car news, car pictures, car review, Car Reviews, honda by Qamar Rehman on January 27, 2009

The Honda Civic Type R is bought for its looks, its reliability and its cracking engine. It’s bristling with technology and fills a gap between the thuggish Focus ST and the refined Golf  GTi. In time, it will be regarded as a modern masterpiece.
Choosing a hot hatch has never been harder – especially after Honda waded into battle with its concept car-inspired Civic Type-R.

Love it or hate it, even the standard Civic turns heads wherever it goes. And the Type-R version has even more appeal. It might not look like it, but the lower panels – including the doors, rear wings and front and rear bumpers are unique to the three-door Civic.

The concept car look carries on in the cabin, where there are no fewer than three display screens – a digital readout for the speedo, a huge analogue rev counter with digital readouts.

Honda say it aimed to produce an experience as near to driving a race car as possible, and it has succeeded.

Although Honda claim the Type-R can manage an average fuel consumption figure of 31mpg, our roadtesters struggled to keep it above 27mpg.

Honda Accord Sport GT aggressive looks, punchy performance and Japanese reliability

Posted in Automotive, car buying, car buying guide, car checking, Car Finder, car news, car review, Car Reviews by Qamar Rehman on January 27, 2009

UK car buyers aren’t short of choice when it comes to family saloons – so car makers have to offer something different.

Honda Accord Cars

Honda Accord Cars

With the Honda Accord Sport GT you get aggressive looks, punchy performance and Japanese reliability.

The flagship Sport GT is only available with one engine – a 2.2-litre diesel pushing out 138bhp and 251lb/ft of pulling power. But it’s one of the best diesel engines on the market and is refined, smooth and impressively quiet.

The Honda Accord is packed with safety features. Standard aids include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, driver and passenger airbags and an alarm and immobiliser.

if you’re looking for a family saloon, which is different to the norm then the Accord – for a slight premium over the ubiquitous Ford Mondeo or a considerable chunk less than the BMW 3 Series – should be seriously considered.

Basic Car Checks |

Posted in auto, auto maintenance, auto repair, car, car checking, car maintenance, car safety by Qamar Rehman on October 11, 2007

Many general checks can be carried out by the driver/owner but there may be safety and driving implications. For guidance, a skilled technician should be referred to for help in accordance to the manufacturer’s service schedule and the Owner’s manual or whenever you are unsure about what to do.

Maintenance you may need help with:

  • Engine Oil
  • Engine coolant level
  • Radiator
  • Brakes
  • Air filter
  • Battery – if this becomes flat you will need jump leads. To start your car off somebody else’s by attaching the positive terminals of each car together and the negative terminals of each car together then starting the engine.
  • Exhaust
  • Belts
  • Shock absorbers
  • Steering fluid -Transmission, brakes, clutch and power

Maintenance to consider in winter:

  • Engine anti-freeze
  • Special battery care
  • Ignition and starting

Maintenance to consider in summer:

  • Cooling system
  • Suspension

Simple maintenance you can do:

Windscreen washers and wiper blades – As it is now a legal requirement to have washers filled up, fill the reservoir up to the brim with windscreen washer fluid when it is only ¼ full. Look out for wear, cracks and damage. Wiper blades should usually be replaced once a year and earlier if smearing occurs.
Lights: Check all lights are operating correctly. It is advisable to use the help of a friend to inspect the exterior of the vehicle whilst you are operating the controls. See lights diagram
